Born in 1857 in Bohemia, Karl Pommerhanz is one of the early German comic artists of the Munich school, who published in Fliegende Blätter. He worked for this periodical from 1886. Earlier, he worked in Prague as a painter (1878-1886). In 1906, he moved to the United States, where he worked for The Chicago Sunday Tribune.
Karl Pommerhanz was a strong graphic influence on Gus Dirks and Rudolph Dirks.
