Francis Vallès studied history and geography before he began his study in fine arts in Saint-Étienne. In August 1983, he started his series 'Simon Francoeur' at Magic Strip, and began his tenure at Je bouquine, where he made several comic adaptations of novels. In 1989, he created 'Jean-Louis Étienne, le Marcheur du Pôle' with Richez and J.-L. Étienne, and started his series 'Dorian Dombre' with José-Louis Bocquet. Three years later, Francis Vallès worked on 'Les Maîtres de l'Orge', a saga about the Steenfort dynasty, with scenario writer Jean van Hamme. In 2005, he started the series 'Rafales' with Stephen Desberg at Le Lombard.
