Colin Upton was born in Winnipeg, but spent most of his childhood in West Vancouver. He was one of the most notable artists of the Canadian small-press movement between 1985 to 1988. He published dozens of mini-comics, many of which portrayed his encounters with Vancouver street people and other marginal characters. |

In 1990, he released the autobiographical comic 'Big Thing', that was soon picked up by Fantagraphics Books. When Fantagraphics cancelled the titles after four issues, Upton returned to mini-comics and continued to do an occasional story for anthologies. In 1995 Upton began 'Buddha on the Road', an anti-religious adventure epic of which six issues appeared. |
