Raina Telgemeier was born and bred in San Francisco, USA. She moved to New York to study at the School of Visual Arts, where she graduated in 2002. While in college, she was editor of InkStains Magazine. She created the minicomic 'Take Out' which won her a nomination for the Ignatz Award for Best Minicomic and the Friends of Lulu's Kim Yale Award for Best New Talent 2003. She was also featured in the book 'Getting the Sex Out of the Way' and the anthology 'Broad Appeal'.
