Michel Rouge studied graphic art in Paris. After graduating, he divided his time between travelling and drawing. He also took courses in applied art by Yves Got and Georges Pichard in 1976. A year later, he joined Vaillant publishers, where he assisted André Chéret on 'Rahan' in Pif Gadget. He then created his first comic for Trio (text by Maric). He collaborated with Norma on several episodes of 'Capitaine Apache'.

In 1978, he started a long collaboration with writer Rodolphe, creating titles such as 'Légendes de l'Éclatée' and 'Les Écluses du Ciel'. From 1985 to 1988 he illustrated the first two episodes of 'Les Héros Cavaliers', written by Patrick Cothias. This comic was later continued by Tarral. In 1989, Michel Greg asked him to revive the 'Comanche' series, a western that was originally illustrated by Hermann. In 2000, he illustrated the 'Marshall Blueberry' series, written by Jean Giraud.
