Christian Rossi published his first pages in Formule 1 in 1973, when he was only 19 years old. It took four years, however, before he actually started his comics career. While studying at the École Estienne, Rossi learned the comics profession from Jijé. After meeting Didier Convard, he joined the publishing house Twin Cam in 1977. From 1980, Rossi worked for the publisher Fleurus, illustrating 'Valvidia le Conquistador' in Historiques and 'Les Aventures de Claire' in Djin.

At Dargaud, he began 'Le Maraudeur' with text by Jean Sanitas in Le Journal de Captain Fulgur. With Henri Filippini, he started the series 'Frédéric Joubert' in Circus. Also for Circus, he made his series 'Le Chariot de Thespis', on his own texts or with Philippe Bonifay. Rossi teamed up with Serge Le Tendre in 1985, creating 'Julius Antoine' in L'Écho des Savanes and 'Edmond et Crustave' at Futuropolis. In 1991, Rossi took over the artwork of the 'Jim Cutlass' series from Jean Giraud (who now focused on the scenarios for this series). Ha also began 'Jordan' with writer Makyo at Delcourt.

In the mid-1990s, he joined Le Tendre again and illustated 'La Gloire d'Hera' in À Suivre, followed by the series 'Thirésias' in 2001. He also drew the more adult comic 'Caïman' with scripts by Enrique Abuli at Albin Michel. In 2003, he began the series 'W.E.S.T.' with scriptwriters Xavier Dorison and Fabien Nury at Dargaud. He also began 'Le Cycle des Deux Horizons' with scripts by Makyo at Delcourt. Although strongly inspired by Giraud early in his career, Christian Rossi soon found his own personal style.
