Jean-Marc Rochette made his professional debut in l'Écho des Savanes in 1976, after a few publications in small magazines and doing some cinema animation. In addition to some short stories, he worked with Nikita Mandryka on 'Anodin et Inodore'. In 1980, he started making the artwork for the comic 'Edmond le Cochon' by Martin Veyron.

At the same time, he started 'Claudius Vigne' in À Suivre. Later he took over the series 'Le Transperceneige' from Alexis. For this series, he used a more realistic style. In 1987, he changed his style once again, when he started making comics for children in the magazine Okapi.
