Born in Viña del Mar, Chile, Henri-Joseph Reculé is the son of a Belgian father and and Chilean mother. He and his family moved to Belgium in 1984. Reculé studied Fine Arts at Saint-Luc in Liège, where he specialized in illustration. While still at Saint-Luc, he made his first comic, and won a prize with it at a comics contest in Hélécine. A couple of months later, he teamed up with Jean-Luc Sala to create 'Le Grand Veneur', that won a contest held by Lombard publishers' magazine Jet. Afterwards, Reculé and Sala produced a longer story entitled 'La Légende de Kynan', that appeared in Hello Bédé and in album in 1993.

At the same time, Reculé came up the midieaval saga 'Castel Armer' on his own, a series that also appeared in Hello Bédé (1993-97). He later teamed up with Stephen Desberg and produced 'Le Crépuscule des Sentinelles' at Casterman in 1997-98. Also in cooperation with Desberg, he took over 'Le Cercle des Sentinelles' from Philippe Wurm in 2000, and created the fantasy series 'Les Immortels' for Glénat in 2001.
