Youri Jigounov got his interest in comics through Tintin magazine, starting when he was five years old. For two years, he studied at the Academy of Civil Aviation in Moscow, and then fullfilled his military service. In 1989, he joined Kom, a Moscow comics studio. Because of the limited possibilities for publication in Russia, Jigounov decided to turn to a West-European publisher. He made a comic called 'Les Lettres de Krivtsov', which he translated to French himself with the aid of a dictionary.

In 1994, he headed for Brussels, Belgium, and sold his story to Lombard publishers. The album was published in 1995, edited by Paul Renard. He continued to collaborate with Renard and created the espionage series 'Alpha'. Unfortunately, Renard died prematurely after two albums, and the scriptwork was continued by Mythic. In 1997, he left Russia for good and settled in Belgium.
