Waldyr Igayara de Souza was one of the first artists of the Brazilian Disney production. Brazilian Disney comics were mainly focused on 'Jose Carioca' ('Zé Carioca'). Where the Argentine artist Luis Destuet was the first artist to work for the Brazilian production, it were the Brazilians Jorge Kato and Waldyr Igayara who drew the first actual 'Jose Carioca' comics. After some co-productions with Kato, Igayara soon became an all-round author, doing scenario, pencils and inking. He was the editor-in-chief at Editora Abril for 25 years. He started his own art school afterwards. He died in 2002.
