Waldyr Igayara de Souza began his career working for the publications of the publishing houses Outubro and Taika, including Combate. He worked through the Alcântara Machado Propaganda studio, which he shared with Lyrio Aragão, Shimamoto and Luiz Saidenberg.

By the late 1960s, De Souza was among the first artists of Brazilian Disney comics for Editora Abril, together with the Argentinian artist Luis Destuet and Jorge Kato. After some co-productions with Kato, Igayara soon became an all-round author, doing scripts, pencils and inking for his stories starring 'Jose Carioca' and 'Fethry Duck'. He also added his own character to the Disney universe, 'Biquinho'.
He was the editor-in-chief at Editora Abril for 25 years, and helped launch magazines like Recreio and Alegria. In 1980, he created 'Paulistinha', a promotional character for the Secretary of Finance in São Paulo. Igayara later set up his own comic art school in Brazil. He died in 2002.
