Ben Horsthuis was a teacher, who also worked as a freelance illustrator for magazines, children's books and schoolbooks. In 1946 and 1947 he made political drawings for Algemeen Dagblad. His comics include 'Bella Paardebloem' (in Prinsestadt, 1946), 'Siep gaat naar de Olympische Spelen' (in Katholieke Missiën, 1952 and Taptoe, 1956), 'De Mattenmaker van Steenwijk' (for Reformatorisch Dagblad with T. Mateboer) and several stories for Okki (until 1960). In addition, he illustrated 10 comic books with 'Dindon', an educational series for the first grade of primary school.
