René Hanau initially studied at the Conservatorium in Brussels, but eventually switched to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He settled in Paris in 1932 and started drawing for magazines like Le Rire, Cadet Revue and Le Sourire, using the penname Jef Mosdijc. |

After the second World War, he returned to comics and cartooning, this time under his family name. He made caricatures, as well as vertical comic strips for Le Hérisson, Marius and La Vie Parissienne. |
