Ion Popescu was a Romanian graphic artist and animator, best known as the creator of little black-and-white man, often referred to by its author's pseudonym, 'Gopo'. He is called the founder of the modern Romanian cartoon school, and has produced films like 'Scurta Istorie'. He began his career in 1939 drawing cartoons and caricatures for newspapers. He has also produced comic strips with his character 'Gopo'.
