Ralph Briggs Fuller

(1890 - 1963, USA)

Oaky Doaks, by Ralph Fuller (1940)
The first work of Ralph Briggs Fuller in a major market was a drawing sold to Life magazine in 1910. It was incredibly crude and out of place. In short order Fuller was the most published cartoonist in American magazines. With cartoon markets drying up in the Depression years, Fuller turned to the strip form and sold 'Oaky Doaks' to Associated Press News Features, and it debuted in 1935. When the AP folded its comic operation in 1961, Fuller was bitter. Having lived for years in New Jersey as an accomplished watercolorist, Ralph Fuller died on August 16, 1963.
