Howard Cobb was born in Cottingham, England, and emigrated with his family to Canada in 1957. In the late 1970s, he studied Theatre at Mount Royal College in Calgary and TV and Film Production at Brigham Young University in Utah. He began his career as an illustrator and worked on watercolor paintings. His first comics work was the 'Quantum Leap' series for the independent publisher Innovation Comics. He then joined Dark Horse Comics, where he did a four issue mini-series called 'Virus'. He also worked on titles like 'Predator' and 'The Machine'.
