Fripounet, by Herboné (1951)
René Bonnet was the creator of the famous French 'Fripounet et Marisette' series. Born in Paris, he was a ceramist and illustrator who made his debut in comics during World War II. His first work was illustrating for Lettre aux Jeunes Ruraux, which was published by the abbey Marchand. There, he also created the character of Fripounet in 1943. In 1945 he gave this young fellow a girlfriend, named Marisette. Fleurus publishers started a magazine for the characters that same year. Bonnet worked exclusively with the characters until 1968, when he focused on painting. René Bonnet, who was a follower of the Clear Line, has drawn about 1100 pages throughout the years.
