Ahn Seok-ju is one the earliest Korean comic artists and illustrators. His satirical comments on society, called 'Manmun Manhwa', appeared in the Chosun Ilbo in the late 1920s. He was associated with the KAPF federation (federation of the artists of the Korean proletariat) and the Towolhoe.
In 1925, he took on the science and art section of Dong-A Ilbo magazine. Three years later, he returned to Chosun Ilbo, where he worked as an illustrator, cartoonist, and art critic until 1938.
